Elegant two-section kimono tansu with refined kanagu ironwork and classic warabite pulls.
This handsome antique Japanese kimono tansu is composed of two stacking sections, a practical design that allowed it to be moved easily within traditional machiya townhouses. The warm, straight-grained wood is framed by forged iron corner brackets and lock plates, giving the chest a quiet strength while highlighting its clean vertical lines and generous storage capacity.
Across the facade, graduated drawers fitted with warabite-style pull handles are balanced by an upper mizuya-style cupboard with double doors and an interior shelf, ideal for folded kimono, obi, or modern linens. The understated kanagu hardware, including a small round crest-like medallion on the doors, adds a subtle decorative note and speaks to the careful craftsmanship of Meiji-era tansu makers.
A fine example of functional Meiji design, ready to lend warmth and character to either traditional or contemporary interiors.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
