Meiji-era two-section kimono tansu with bold circular lock plates and forged iron fittings

This handsome antique kimono tansu is crafted as a traditional two-section chest (kiri dansu style), designed for flexible use and easy transport. Four full-width drawers provide generous storage, each fronted with a commanding circular lock plate and paired warabite-style drawer pulls, creating a strong vertical rhythm against the warm, honey-toned wood grain.

Iron corner brackets, side carrying handles, and lateral tie-down hooks speak to the chest’s original role in a Japanese household, where it would have stored folded kimono and textiles. Today, its clean lines and distinctive hardware make it an ideal statement piece for an entryway, bedroom, or living space, bringing authentic Meiji-period character to both traditional and modern interiors.
