Antique Japanese Three Section Kimono Tansu Chest With Hikido Sliding Door Kannon Boraki Door And Five Multi Sized Drawers, 1910s (SKU 25D-A439)

Taishō-era three-section kimono tansu with hikido sliding doors, Kannon biraki doors, and richly detailed iron hardware.

This handsome antique kimono tansu is a classic three-section chest designed for organizing folded kimono and personal effects in a traditional Japanese home. Crafted in warm-toned solid wood with a straight, architectural profile, it combines a pair of upper hikido sliding doors, a bank of small drawers, central Kannon biraki double doors, and two deep lower drawers for ample, flexible storage.

Delicate forged-iron fittings unify the piece: openwork lock plates on the Kannon biraki doors feature auspicious motifs, while the drawer pulls and sliding-door hikite are finished with understated floral detailing. The chest separates into three stacking modules for ease of transport, true to original tansu construction, and presents beautifully restored surfaces that highlight the natural grain while preserving its Taishō-period character.

A refined Taishō kimono tansu that brings authentic Japanese craftsmanship, warmth, and practical storage to any interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
