Taishō-era three-section kimono tansu with hikido sliding door and Kannon-biraki double doors
This elegant antique Japanese kimono tansu is crafted in three stacking sections, a practical modular design that allowed it to be moved easily within traditional machiya townhouses. The warm, straight-grained wood is finished in a soft, medium-brown tone that highlights the natural figure, while the understated rectilinear framing around the hikido sliding door speaks to the refined simplicity of early 20th-century Taishō taste.
Below, five multi-sized drawers offer versatile storage, each fitted with classic warabite-style iron pulls and small escutcheons. The lower Kannon-biraki doors are adorned with finely pierced iron plates and long silk tassels, adding a subtle decorative flourish without compromising the tansu’s clean architectural lines. Beautiful as a statement piece for folded textiles or modern wardrobe storage, it brings authentic Japanese character to either traditional or contemporary interiors.
A finely detailed Taishō-era kimono tansu that combines practical storage with the quiet sophistication of traditional Japanese design.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
