Taishō-era three-section kimono tansu with hikido sliding doors, Kannon biraki doors, and versatile drawer storage.
This handsome three-section kimono tansu embodies the clean, architectural lines favored in early 20th-century Japan. Crafted in warm-toned hardwood with a finely striated grain, it features a balanced composition of hikido sliding doors, Kannon biraki double doors, and multi-sized drawers, all accented by understated iron hardware. The casework is joined with traditional techniques and reinforced by corner plates and side straps, allowing the chest to separate into stackable modules for ease of transport and flexible display.
The upper section offers sliding-door compartments and small drawers ideal for accessories or documents, while the central Kannon biraki doors open to reveal two full-width pull-out trays for folded kimono or linens. Below, deep drawers provide generous storage for clothing or textiles, making this tansu as practical today as it was in the Taishō period. Subtle details such as the inset round pulls, lock escutcheons, and interior support post speak to the careful craftsmanship and enduring appeal of authentic Japanese mingei furniture.
A refined yet understated kimono tansu that brings authentic Taishō-era Japanese character and highly functional storage to any interior.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
