Antique Japanese Three Section Kimono Tansu Chest With Hikido Kannon Door And Multi Sized Drawers, 1910s (SKU 25D-A423)

Taishō-era three-section kimono tansu with hikidō, Kannon biraki doors, and beautifully balanced multi-sized drawers

This elegant antique kimono tansu is a classic three-section chest designed for storing folded kimono and obi in a traditional Japanese home. Crafted in warm-toned keyaki-style hardwood with framed panel work, it features a refined architectural façade: sliding hikidō doors to the upper compartment, a row of small drawers, and a central pair of Kannon biraki doors opening to wide interior trays for garments.

Original iron hardware – including warabite-style drawer pulls, inset door pulls, corner plates, and working lock with key – subtly contrasts with the honey-colored wood grain, giving the piece a quiet Taishō modern aesthetic. The three stacking sections allow for flexible installation and easier transport, while the mix of shallow and deep drawers makes this kimono tansu equally suited to contemporary use as a bedroom wardrobe, linen press, or living-room storage.

  • Dimensions: 37W x 16 1/2"D x 64 1/2"H

A finely made Taishō kimono tansu that brings authentic Japanese craftsmanship and practical, organized storage to any interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
