Taishō-era three-section kimono tansu with hikido doors and multi-sized warabite drawers for refined, vertical storage.
This elegant antique isho dansu (kimono tansu) is composed of three stacking sections, designed for easy transport and flexible placement in traditional Japanese interiors. The warm, honey-toned case showcases straight, even grain and a clean rectilinear profile, softened by the rounded warabite-style drawer pulls and simple iron lock escutcheons. At the top, a pair of framed hikido sliding doors conceal a spacious compartment for folded garments or valuables, while a row of three small drawers organizes accessories and smaller textiles.
Below, two banks of full-width drawers provide generous storage for kimono, obi, and bedding, each fitted with original metal hardware that has mellowed to a dark patina. Forged iron corner plates and side mounts visually anchor the three-section construction and speak to its original role as a practical yet refined household chest. With its balanced proportions, functional layout, and quietly luminous surface, this Taishō-period kimono tansu adapts beautifully as a bedroom dresser, entry chest, or living room storage piece in both Japanese and contemporary interiors.
A classic Taishō kimono tansu with hikido and warabite details, offering authentic Japanese character and highly functional storage.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
