Antique Japanese Tea Ware Container, 1970s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-405-4)

Large round wooden chabako for storing and serving a complete Japanese tea set

This generously sized, lidded wooden container was made to hold a full Japanese tea set, keeping kyūsu teapot, yunomi cups and small utensils together in one elegant form. Turned from solid wood with a warm, honey-brown finish, it has a softly rounded rim and a flat, tray-like lid that reflects the understated aesthetics of mid‑Showa tea ware.

Inside, the smooth cylindrical walls and broad base create a versatile storage and display space, ideal for arranging tea utensils or using as a serving bowl during a casual chanoyu-inspired gathering. Subtle patina, light surface marks and a faint ring on the lid speak to decades of careful use, adding character while preserving the container’s sturdy, functional presence.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
