This is a 2 section antique Japanese stacking chest called Kiri Kasane Tansu from Middle Meiji period ( 1880's - 1890's). It is entirely made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. The iron fitting were all hand made, large lock plates. The cabinet is equipped with four large size drawers and secret compartments behind the bottom right door.

Originally used to store Japanese kimono, obi and accessories, its present day use works well for clothes storage in the bedroom or linen storage in the living room or dining room of a contemporary home.
