Antique Japanese Square Basket, 1920s (SKU 25D-384-2)
Finely woven Taishō-era bamboo tray with rich dark patina
This antique Japanese square basket tray showcases an elegant yotsume-ami (checkerboard) weave in alternating dark and reddish-brown bamboo strips, creating a subtle yet striking visual rhythm. Its low, straight sides and gently rounded corners highlight the precision of the artisan, while the deep, time-softened patina speaks to decades of careful use and appreciation.
Likely made as a versatile oshiki or serving tray in the Taishō period, this rectangular basket would have been used to present sweets, tea utensils, or small objects in a traditional Japanese interior. Today it makes a refined accent for displaying ceramics, organizing a desk or entryway, or adding an authentic 1920s Taishō-era touch to contemporary wabi-sabi décor.
