Antique Japanese Square Basket, 1920s (SKU 25D-384-1)
Finely woven Taishō-era square bamboo basket with rich dark patina
This elegant antique Japanese square basket showcases a meticulous kumi-ami (interlaced) weave in alternating dark and warm reddish-brown bamboo strips. The low rectangular form and straight sides give it a refined, architectural presence, ideal for presenting textiles, papers, or as a centerpiece tray in a contemporary interior.
Likely dating to the Taishō period, the basket features a sturdy outer frame with reinforcing ribs that divide the base into panels, a detail often seen in quality 1920s Japanese basketry. The surface has developed a soft sheen from age and use, enhancing the contrast between the deep lacquer-like stain and the natural bamboo highlights.
