Antique Japanese Small Hikidashi Drawer (SKU 25D-348)

Taishō-era ko-tansu chest with striking figured keyaki grain

This compact four-drawer ko-dansu is crafted in richly figured keyaki (zelkova), prized in Japanese furniture for its dramatic “tamo” grain and durability. The drawer fronts display a beautiful undulating pattern, framed by clean lines and tight joinery that speak to early 20th-century Taishō workmanship.

Designed for desktop or tansu-top use, the chest offers practical storage for stationery, calligraphy tools, or small accessories, while the warm amber finish and original iron warabite-style pulls add an elegant vintage presence. A fine example of antique Japanese small drawers that blends everyday utility with refined material beauty.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
