Antique Japanese Small Drawer (SKU 25D-198-1)

Compact Taishō-era style ko-tansu chest with rich dark finish and oval door compartment

This charming antique Japanese small drawer chest, or ko-tansu, features a beautifully grained dark wood façade with three drawers and a distinctive oval-front side compartment. The warm reddish-brown lacquered finish, softly worn from use, highlights the natural figure of the wood and gives the piece a refined yet homely presence ideal for tabletop or shelf display.

Traditional iron pull handles and a side cut-out handhold speak to its practical origins as a portable storage chest for documents, writing tools, or personal effects. Today, it offers characterful organization for an entryway, living room, or study while bringing an authentic touch of early 20th-century Japanese craftsmanship to your interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
