This impressive antique Japanese rice container, or komebitsu, is crafted from vertically grained softwood staves tightly bound with iron bands. The cylindrical body shows a warm honeyed patina, built up over decades of use in a traditional farmhouse or merchant storehouse, with tool marks, minor abrasions, and ink traces that speak to its working past.

Heavy forged-iron side handles and strapwork reinforce the form while adding a strong wabi-sabi presence, making this piece ideal as a sculptural storage vessel, umbrella stand, or focal point in a Japanese-inspired interior.
