Finely carved Taishō-era ranma panel with classic landscape, bridge, and pine motifs
This antique Japanese ranma (transom panel) is crafted from warm-toned natural wood and intricately pierced with a sweeping landscape scene. Rolling hills, a distant pagoda, and layered clouds are rendered in crisp relief, while the dense grain of the timber has been carefully oriented to enhance the sense of movement in the mountains and water.
At the center, a graceful arched bridge crosses the foreground, framed by stylized matsu (pine trees) and traditional architecture, evoking the tranquil atmosphere of a Japanese garden. Originally set above sliding doors in a Taishō-period home, this ranma now makes a striking wall hanging or headboard accent, bringing authentic Japanese design and craftsmanship into a contemporary interior.
A refined example of Taishō-era joinery and carving, ready to lend quiet Japanese elegance to your space.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
