This antique Meiji-era Japanese mizuya tansu is a beautifully balanced piece of functional storage and traditional craftsmanship. Constructed from aged hinoki wood, it features a rich contrast between its dark-stained frame and natural wood drawer and door panels. The piece is accented with simple brass handles and decorative cutouts on the sliding doors.

Mizuya Dansu was most likely used in the kitchen of a Japanese household for the storage of plates, utensils and food items. In your modern home, this Japanese chest is great for storing your crystal and dinner party tableware.

While the right side panel has a visible crack consistent with age, all drawers and sliding doors function smoothly. A striking addition to any interior, this tansu reflects the elegance and utility of Meiji-period cabinetry.
