Antique Japanese Mizuya Kitchen Tansu Chest With Multi Sized Hikido Sliding Doors And Warabite Drawers (SKU 25D-E411)

Taishō-era style mizuya tansu with multi-sized hikido and classic warabite pulls for elegant, everyday storage.

This handsome Japanese mizuya kitchen tansu is arranged in the traditional stepped bands of sliding doors and drawers, offering practical storage within a refined, architectural façade. The warm, honey-brown finish highlights the straight grain of the softwood carcass, while the framed panels and precise joinery speak to careful, hand-crafted construction.

Multi-sized hikido (sliding doors) conceal generous shelves for tableware or pantry goods, and a run of small drawers with iron warabite pulls provides orderly space for utensils, linens, or stationery. The lower louvered doors recall classic mizuya ventilation, giving the piece a light, rhythmic texture that adapts beautifully to use as a sideboard, bar, or entry cabinet in a contemporary interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
