Taisho-era two-section kimono tansu with bold circular lock plates and forged iron fittings
This handsome antique kimono tansu is crafted as a traditional two-section chest (kiri dansu style), designed for flexible use and easy transport. Four full-width drawers provide generous storage, each fronted with a commanding circular lock plate and paired warabite-style drawer pulls, creating a strong vertical rhythm against the warm, honey-toned wood grain.
Iron corner brackets, side carrying handles, and lateral tie-down hooks speak to the chest’s original role in a Japanese household, where it would have stored folded kimono and textiles. Today, its clean lines and distinctive hardware make it an ideal statement piece for an entryway, bedroom, or living space, bringing authentic Taisho-period character to both traditional and modern interiors.
A refined yet practical kimono tansu that brings genuine early 20th-century Japanese craftsmanship into everyday use.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
