Antique Japanese Kumiko Ranma Transom Panel — Architectural Wood Decor, 1920, Taisho Era (SKU: 24N-73-2)

Finely carved wooden ranma transom with intricate kumiko latticework

This antique Japanese ranma features a beautifully executed kumiko lattice pattern, hand-assembled from slender wooden strips without the use of nails. The rhythmic grid, formed by repeating geometric motifs, allows light and air to pass through while maintaining a refined sense of privacy, typical of traditional washitsu (tatami rooms).

Framed in a contrasting dark outer border that highlights the warm natural tone of the inner lattice, this panel can be displayed horizontally as an architectural accent, wall art, or incorporated into a custom shoji-style partition. Its balanced proportions and precise joinery make it an elegant example of early 20th-century Japanese interior craftsmanship.
