Warmly patinated wooden kotatsu frame, a simple Showa-era structure with timeless minka charm.

This antique Japanese kotatsu frame is crafted from solid wood with a rich, dark brown finish that has mellowed beautifully over time. The low, square form would originally have supported a brazier or heat source beneath a futon quilt, creating a cozy hearth at floor level in a traditional washitsu room. Rounded corners and gently worn edges speak to years of careful use and give the piece an inviting, lived-in presence.

Today, this versatile frame can be enjoyed as a low display stand, a base for a glass or wooden top, or as an atmospheric accent in a wabi-sabi or Japanese-inspired interior.
