Antique Japanese Kiri Wood Ko Tansu on Stand
This piece is the bottom section of a traditional two-piece stacking tansu chest, crafted in kiri wood (paulownia) and set on a custom black wooden stand. Originally designed for versatile storage, it has been adapted into a standalone chest ideal for contemporary use as a nightstand or end table.
The chest retains its original hand-forged iron hardware, featuring bold corner fittings and rounded drawer pulls that highlight its Edo-period design lineage. The warm patina of the kiri wood pairs beautifully with the black stand, giving the piece both presence and balance in modern interiors.
A versatile furnishing, it functions equally well beside a bed, next to a sofa, or as an accent piece that adds history and character to any space.
