This is an antique Japanese multi drawer small chest called Ko Hikidashi Tansu from Middle Meiji period (1880's - 1890's). It was constructed of Cryptomeria (Suginoki) and all the metal fittings were all hand made of iron.

Originally used to store small items for a shop or store because all drawers come with locks.

Contemporary use would function as a side table or personal storage chest.
