This is an antique Japanese Ko Bako or Personal Merchant Storage Box with drawers that was made from Cypress (Hinoki) and Cryptomeria (Suginoki) woods from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).
Originally used to store notes, ephemera, photos, stationery and anything else that would fit in the drawers, its present day use works very well as a jewelry box, a cosmetic box, or a convenient place to store bills and receipts.
