This is a 2 section antique Japanese stacking chest called Kasane Isho Tansu from Middle Meiji period ( 1880's - 1890's). It is entirely made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. The iron fittings were all hand made.
Tansu comes with large round lockplates, Gunpai style handles.
Each section can be used separately for versatility or stacked together to save space.
Originally used to store Japanese kimono, obi and accessories, its present day use works well for clothes storage in the bedroom or linen storage in the living room or dining room of a contemporary house.
