Antique Japanese Isho Kimono Tansu Chest (Isho Tansu) — 1920s, Taisho Era (SKU A331)
An Heirloom of Grace — Where Stillness Holds a Story

This striking Isho Tansu (衣装箪笥), hailing from the Taisho era of the 1920s, is more than a storage piece — it’s a quiet sentinel of tradition, patiently preserving the elegance of past lives. Designed with precision and poise, this chest once safeguarded kimono and ceremonial garments, each drawer a compartment for layers of silk and memory.

Crafted from kiri (paulownia) wood, prized for its featherweight strength and resistance to insects and moisture, this tansu stands with a proud yet warm presence. It features two sliding doors at the top, three small drawers for accessories or ornaments, and five spacious drawers fitted with forged iron pulls. The subtle grain and refined joinery echo the artisanal dedication of a bygone era — a work of function and beauty destined to outlast generations.
