Antique Japanese Kimono Chest (Tansu) — 1920s, Taisho Era (SKU A322)
Where Serenity Meets Craftsmanship in Every Grain

This beautiful Taisho-era Ishō Tansu (衣装箪笥) tells the quiet story of a time when simplicity, function, and elegance were inseparable. Handcrafted nearly a century ago, this chest once held finely folded kimono, ceremonial obi, and treasured silks—each drawer guarding the garments of daily life and celebration.

Its composition in fine kiri (paulownia) wood not only protected against humidity but also imparted a golden warmth to the surface. The symmetrical design is both stately and serene: twin sliding panels above, three petite drawers beneath, and a graceful cascade of larger drawers below—each fitted with original hand-forged iron pulls. The woodgrain flows softly, echoing the stillness of traditional Japanese interiors, while the build quality assures generations of continued use.
