Antique Japanese Kimono Chest (Isho Tansu) — 1920s, Taisho Era (SKU A319)
Where Elegance Meets Order — A Symphony in Wood and Iron
This tall and dignified Isho Tansu (衣装箪笥), or kimono chest, from the refined Taisho era of the 1920s, embodies the balance of functionality and quiet artistry that defines traditional Japanese craftsmanship. With its stately presence and meticulously arranged drawers, it once served as the heart of a Japanese household, protecting silk garments like whispered memories.
The kiri (paulownia) wood construction offers not only lightness and durability but also natural protection from moisture and insects — ideal for storing heirloom kimono and delicate accessories. The five full-width drawers, three compact drawers, and sliding-panel cabinet form a composition of practical harmony, adorned with hand-forged iron handles and traditional lock plates. It stands as a celebration of purposeful beauty and enduring care.
