Antique Japanese Kimono Chest (Kannon Biraki Tansu) — 1920s, Taisho Era (SKU: 25M-A318)
A Symphony of Tradition and Hidden Grace

Steeped in heritage and elegance, this antique Japanese kimono tansu from the Taisho era unfolds like a poem in wood. The upper section features classic sliding doors and three petite drawers—ideal for storing personal effects, writing tools, or small keepsakes. Beneath, the central highlight emerges: a stately kannon biraki (観音開き) cabinet with double hinged doors, reminiscent of temple gates. These open wide to reveal generous inner compartments that once safeguarded ceremonial garments or heirlooms.

The lower third offers three full-width drawers with iron fittings—each drawer a vessel of stories, secrets, and finely folded textiles. Crafted with refined symmetry and practical soul, this tansu is not just furniture—it’s a portal to a quieter, slower, more beautiful time.
