This is an antique Japanese 2 section stacking kimono chest called Kasane Tansu from Middle Meiji period ( 1880's - 1890's). It is made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood.

It features an open fan lock plate design and the two small drawers were used to store Obijime, Tabi and other garment accessories. Handles are Gunbai style handles.

Open fan has a shape that the ends are spreading out so it has very auspicious meaning such as a prosperity and good luck.

It is very versatile since each section can be used in different locations or placed side by side to make a long table or placed back to back to make a large table.
