This is an antique 2 section Japanese stair chest called Kaidan or Kaidansu from the middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's).  It was constructed out of Cryptomeria (Suginoki). There are original hand made handles and substantial to match this beautiful chest.

Every inch of this chest has storage room.

The expert craftsman responsible for the commissioned work on this chest took special care and this type of workmanship is very rare to find making this an original work of art.

I selected this tansu as one of my favorites and I hope you will enjoy it with the same enthusiasm.
