Edo-period lacquered jingasa bearing a bold gold kamon and original silk cord
This striking antique Japanese jingasa (light war hat) is finished in a deep black lacquer, rising to a sharp central peak and flaring into a broad, protective brim. Set to one side is a beautifully hand-painted gold kamon, the family crest providing a refined focal point against the dark ground and recalling the status of the samurai retainer who once wore it.
The underside preserves its original braided silk cord and tassel in a warm ochre tone, an elegant contrast to the austere surface. Scattered scuffs, small losses to the lacquer, and gentle patination attest to its age and authentic use, making this piece an evocative display object for an Edo-era samurai armor collection, tokonoma alcove, or wall-mounted installation.
A classic Edo jingasa with kamon, ideal for collectors seeking an authentic accent of samurai history.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
