Antique Japanese Incense Burner (SKU 25D-433)

Samurai kabuto–shaped koro with bold crest finial and rich aged patina

Cast in the form of a samurai kabuto helmet, this compact antique Japanese incense burner (koro) combines martial elegance with the quiet ritual of fragrance. The domed, slotted lid echoes the ribbed iron plates of armor, while the three-pronged crest evokes a dramatic helmet maedate, rising above the piece in a contrasting golden-brown tone.

The body rests on four sturdy feet and is detailed with tiny bosses and textile-like textures, suggesting layered lacing and metalwork. An inner perforated cup holds incense safely inside, allowing smoke to drift through the helmet’s vents. Time has given the surface a deep brown finish with areas of green oxidation, enhancing its Samurai-era character and making it an atmospheric accent for a tokonoma, tea corner, or curated Japanese décor display.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
