Finely cast bronze koro with kirin finial and guardian shishi Quadruped feet
This richly detailed antique Japanese incense burner, or koro, is cast in bronze with an intricate openwork body of scrolling foliage and stylised chrysanthemum blossoms. Resting on three powerful shishi (guardian lion-dog) supports and crowned by a striding kirin on the lid, it beautifully expresses the Taishō-era taste for ornate, auspicious imagery in the tearoom and household shrine.
An inner removable liner allows the piece to be used cleanly with loose incense or charcoal, while the pierced sides and lid let fragrant smoke drift through the floral arabesques. Warm brown patina with touches of natural verdigris emphasises the depth of the carving, making this koro a striking focal point for a tokonoma display or a refined addition to any collection of Japanese bronze incense burners.
A superbly modelled Taishō-era bronze koro that brings protective symbolism and atmospheric incense to any Japanese-inspired interior.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
