Antique Japanese Inari Fox, Porcelain, 1920s (SKU 25S-523-6)

Charming pair of shrine-style Inari fox figurines in hand-painted porcelain

Rendered in a glossy white glaze and seated on vivid vermilion plinths, this matched pair of kitsune (fox) figures evokes the small guardian statues seen at Inari shrines across Japan. Each fox holds a stylized treasure sack and sits before a black-framed panel, its face delicately detailed in black and red with touches of gilt on the tail and offerings.

The compact scale and symmetrical composition make these antique Japanese porcelain foxes ideal for a kamidana (household altar), bookshelf, or tokonoma display. Their bold Taishō-era palette of orange-red, black, and soft green adds a lively accent while honoring the traditional role of Inari foxes as protectors of prosperity, harvest, and good fortune.

A refined yet playful addition for collectors of Inari iconography and early 20th-century Japanese porcelain.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
