Antique Japanese Inari Fox, Porcelain, 1940s (SKU 25S-523-2)

Charming Showa-era miniature Inari shrine with twin kitsune guardians and torii gate

This hand-painted porcelain okimono depicts a vivid Inari jinja, complete with flanking white foxes (kitsune), a steep vermilion torii, and a tiled shrine roof picked out in bright enamels. The foxes sit alert at the entrance, delicately modeled with red details and holding offerings, evoking the protective spirits of Japan’s rice and prosperity deity, Inari.

The sculpted base suggests a raised shrine platform, with stone-like side rails and steps leading up through the torii, creating a three-dimensional miniature of a countryside Inari shrine. Rich Taishō-period colors—orange, green, blue, and yellow—give this small figure a strong presence, making it an ideal focal point for a kamidana-style display, a Japanese ceramics collection, or as a symbolic talisman for good fortune in the home.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
