This is an antique Japanese Imari porcelain blue and white brazier called Hibachi from late Meiji period (1910's).

It is decorated with Kirin, maginary animal which is originated in China and has auspicious meaning. On the bottom is decorated with Seigaiha, Blue sea and waves. This is the patterns that the waves are lapped over alternately and this is one of the traditional geometrical patterns known as also auspicious omen motif.

Originally used as a hand warmer, there are multiple contemporary uses such as a planter or display.
