Antique Japanese Tsuri Doro Hanging Lantern (SKU 25D-033-1)

Rustic Taishō-era style cast-iron tsuri-dōrō with pagoda roof and moon window

This antique Japanese hanging lantern, or tsuri-dōrō, is crafted in heavy cast iron with a gently flared pagoda-style roof and four splayed legs. The pierced windows evoke traditional shōji latticework, allowing candlelight to filter through in a warm, patterned glow while the rich, time-softened rust patina speaks to decades of outdoor use in a garden or temple approach.

One panel features a crescent-moon cutout and a small hinged door, providing access to the interior for placing a candle or small oil lamp. Retaining its original hanging loop and chain, this Taishō-period inspired lantern is ideal for suspending beneath an eave, in a tea garden, or displaying indoors as a sculptural accent that brings authentic wabi-sabi character to any space.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
