Antique Japanese Hanging Flower Vase, Meiji Era (SKU 25D-392)

Meiji-era bronze kakehana with sculpted vine and berry motif

This elegant antique Japanese hanging flower vase (kakehana / kakebana) is cast in a rich, dark bronze with a softly swollen gourd-like body and tall, arched neck. The front is deeply opened to receive a seasonal sprig, while the back shows a simple rectangular suspension aperture for hanging on a nail or hook in the tokonoma or by a pillar.

Around the shoulder, a finely modelled vine wraps in high relief, its serrated leaves and clustered berries adding a naturalistic accent typical of late Edo–Meiji metalwork. The surface bears a warm, time-softened patina with small marks from age and use, giving this kakehana an understated wabi-sabi presence that pairs beautifully with ikebana arrangements.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
