This antique Japanese cha tansu (tea chest) showcases beautifully figured hardwood with a warm, hand-rubbed finish that highlights the natural grain. Sliding glass doors reveal an intricate interior of staggered shelves, a small lockable drawer, and shaped supports, originally designed to present chadōgu (tea utensils) and prized ceramics while keeping them protected yet visible.

Below, a bank of drawers and a deep lower compartment with sliding wooden doors provide generous merchant-style storage for linens, tableware, or documents, making the piece as practical today as it was in a Taishō-period townhouse.
