Antique Japanese Kagami Hand Mirror, Bronze, 1910s, Meiji Era (SKU 25D-455-2)

Finely cast Meiji-era hand mirror with cranes, pine, and bamboo in high relief

This antique Japanese bronze mirror, or kagami, presents a richly detailed landscape in crisp relief: elegant cranes stand and fly above rippling water, framed by sculptural pine and bamboo, with plum blossoms completing the auspicious trio of motifs. The circular bronze plate is paired with a simple ribbed handle, creating a beautiful balance between elaborate imagery and understated form.

Likely from the late Meiji period, this decorative mirror would have graced a tansu or dressing table as both a practical object and a token of good fortune and longevity. Today it displays as a small bronze panel artwork, its warm patina and crisp chiseling making it ideal for collectors of Japanese metalwork or for adding a refined, historical accent to an interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
