Antique Japanese Mirror, Bronze (SKU 25D-455-1)

Early 20th-century hand mirror in solid bronze with maker’s inscription

This antique kagami (hand mirror) is cast in heavy bronze with a quietly modern, rectilinear handle that contrasts beautifully with the circular head. One side retains its softly dulled reflective surface, showing a rich, mottled patina that speaks to decades of careful use and handling. The mirror’s understated form makes it an elegant accent on a dressing table, tokonoma shelf, or as part of a curated vignette of Meiji and Taishō decorative arts.

The reverse is finely worked with an all-over punched texture and a vertical column of kanji, indicating the maker and adding documentary value for collectors of Japanese bronze. Traces of natural verdigris nestle within the tiny hammered points, enhancing the surface with depth and character. Whether displayed flat, on a stand, or wall-mounted, this Japanese bronze mirror offers an authentic, wabi-sabi presence and a tangible link to early 20th-century craftsmanship.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
