Antique Japanese Kagami Hand Mirror, Bronze, 1910s, Meiji Era (SKU 25D-477-2)

Finely cast Meiji-era kagami with embossed floral and fan motif

This antique Japanese bronze mirror (kagami) presents a beautifully composed design of blossoming sprays arranged over a bundle of sensu folding fans. The softly textured ground contrasts with the raised relief, giving depth to the plump fruit-like blooms and sharply defined leaves, while a discreet artist’s inscription anchors the composition along one side.

Dating to the late Meiji period, this bronze mirror would originally have been both a functional toiletry item and an elegant decorative object for the tokonoma alcove. Today it reads as a sculptural panel: the warm patina, crisp chisel work, and classic seasonal imagery make it an ideal piece for collectors of Japanese metalwork or for display alongside other Meiji bronze art.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
