Taisho-era vermilion lacquer butsudan altar stand with gilt cloud panels and single storage drawer
This compact Japanese altar table, or butsudan-dai, is finished in a rich vermilion red lacquer accented with gilt detailing. The gently upturned ends of the top recall temple architecture, while the splayed legs and stepped apron give the piece an elegant, elevated stance suitable for presenting a household shrine or cherished object.
To the front and sides, carved gilt “cloud” panels with ribbed texture frame a central drawer fitted with a small chrysanthemum-form pull, offering discreet storage for incense, candles, or ritual implements. Areas of wear to the lacquer and gilding, particularly at the corners and edges, lend this Taisho-era altar table a soft, timeworn patina that speaks to its long life in devotion.
A characterful Taisho butsudan altar table that brings the warmth of traditional Japanese temple style to any interior.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
