This is an antique Japanese 2 section kimono chest called Kasane Tansu from the middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's). It was constructed entirely out of Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood and the iron fittings were all hand made.
It has handsome large lockplates in the center.
Originally used for the storage of kimono in Japan, this chest would make a great clothes dresser or an elegant storage unit in any home decor. It is also versatile allowing each section to be used in different rooms of the house.
