This is an 2 section antique Japanese stacking chest called Kiri Kasane Tansu from Middle Meiji period ( 1880's - 1890's). It is entirely made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood

The iron fittings were all hand made and the lockplates have Hana Bishi designs which means floral diamond.

Each section can be used separately for versatility or stacked together to save space.

Originally used to store Japanese kimono, obi and accessories, its present day use works well for clothes storage in the bedroom or linen storage in the living room or dining room of a contemporary home.
