This is a modern 2 section Cha Dansu, tea chest used for the storage and display of basic home tea items that were usually placed in the living area where guests could have access and be able to see any Japanese snacks that would be available to them. It is made of Zelkova (Keyaki), Horse chestnut (Tochinoki), Paulownia (Kirinoki) and other woods. Kiri wood which is used inside of drawers is very light, fine-grained, soft, warp-resistant .
Because these chests were often used to display various items and would be always out in view, tea Chests were usually made of high quality and finely figured woods.
In your living room, the combination of shelves, drawers, and sliding drawers make it perfect for wine glasses and other entertainment accessories for when you have company over.
