Antique Japanese Kimono Tansu — Kiri Wood, 1920s, Taishō Era (SKU: 25M-A312)
Drawers of dawn-light cedar, holding memories of dressing with care
This two-section kiri tansu embodies the Taishō pursuit of modern refinement. Five graduated drawers float atop a deeper double-drawer base, their graceful iron handles echoing the semicircle of a rising sun. A tiny silver cartouche, once bearing the craftsman’s mark, rests mid-chest—a discreet signature of pride.
Lightweight yet resilient, paulownia allowed families to rearrange their tansu with seasonal ease; brass side latches on this piece still release so the chest can be separated and moved. Whether storing quilts, art papers, or fashion pieces, its gentle wood scent and soft amber hue add Zen-like calm to contemporary rooms.
