This is a rare authentic antique Japanese stacking stair chest called Kaidan Tansu.  It was constructed with Cypress (Hinoki) and Cryptomeria wood (Suginoki) from middle Meiji period (1880's-1890').

The Kaidan Tansu was often designed in several modular pieces.  This piece comes in 2 sections.

It has a combination of sliding doors and drawers for an abundance of storage space. The incline is from the right  to the left.

The antique Japanese stair tansu is becoming a very rare find these days indeed.

I selected this tansu as one of my favorites and I hope you will enjoy it with the same enthusiasm.
