This is a vintage Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).

This tansu is made entirely of Paulownia (Kirinoki). Originally used to store small accessories and bric-a-brac, its contemporary use would function well as a side table or bedside stand.
