This is a vintage Japanese small personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).  It was made using 100% Paulownia wood (Kirinoki).  Originally used to store small personal belongings, its contemporary use has remained unchanged and function as a bedside stand or a small side table.
